This part-time position provides service music for most weekly Uptown 8:30am liturgical & 11:00am convergent worship services, as well as some special services (e.g. Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, Good Friday and Easter). The position continues through the summer, including accompaniment for special music, when needed. Instruments include a new Allen Bravura 3 manual, 50 stop digital organ and an excellent 7' Yamaha Grand Piano. Qualifications: • Be a committed follower of Jesus Christ, seeking to know, love and serve God. • Possess a high degree of competence on organ, and piano, and the ability to accompany groups and individuals. (Bachelor Degree in Music with emphasis in organ preferred) • Have knowledge of the organ and keyboard ability sufficient to play hymns, liturgy, and anthem accompaniments at sight. • Be familiar with a variety of sacred music literature and United Methodist hymnody. • Be a strong team player who is able to take direction from and work collaboratively with the Director of Worship Ministry in planning music appropriate to the theme and design of worship. • Be dependable, responsible, self-motivated and creative. Responsibilities: • Provide organ and/or piano accompaniment for the congregation during Sunday morning Traditional & Convergent worship and at Wednesday worship team rehearsals. Musical offerings on Sunday may include hymns, praise songs, anthems, special music, solos, prelude, offertory, postlude, recessional, response, communion music, and, on special occasions, cantatas and other large works. • Work collaboratively and communicate frequently with the Director of Worship Ministry in planning, preparing, and playing of music appropriate for each unique scheduled worship service, as well as other required occasions, to support the music ministry of the church. • Rehearse weekly with song leaders and/or worship teams for services of worship. • Assist with the maintenance and/or tuning of the sanctuary instruments and report any problems to the Trustee committee and arrange for any repairs on their approval. Hours of Work: This position is up to 10 hours per week. Most hours will be on Sunday morning and Wednesday evening. Compensation: Cash salary, payable per service of worship (which includes time spent in planning and rehearsing). Evaluation: A job performance assessment will be completed annually, including review of this job description. Accountability: This staff person works under supervision of the Director of Worship Ministry and is finally accountable to the Lead Pastor and the Staff Parish Relations Committee.
